HSBC Bank Middle East Limited was one of the first foreign banks to receive a licence to operate in Kuwait, following the relaxation of banking laws, and was the first to open its branch. It formally re-established a presence in Kuwait on 2 October 2005 after a 34 year absence. HSBC has one branch in Kuwait City located in its premises near the Sheraton Hotel.
